Have you ever thought about doing something different with your child's play structure? Do you think they should play with instruments other than the normal school playground equipment and outdoor playground equipment?
When my daughter was under five years old, I tried to keep her away from outdoor tools that older children play with. I am not a strict mom, but I am very afraid of injuries. On the other hand, I wanted her to have some physical and mental activities that would help her grow. In my search, I learned about constructive toys. Believe it or not, it has done wonders for my daughter's growth! The positive aspects I noticed about her are as follows.
1. Better at problem solving
I saw them try out different ideas when building the blocks. Sometimes she tried dozens of ideas to build one thing. The thing I loved so much about this game was that it never gave up. She continued to brainstorm, trying one idea after another; destroy one structure and try another. This made her consistent and a better problem solver. Now I see that she finds a way out of every problem that comes her way, be it academic or social.
2. Improves fine motor skills
Fine motor skills are about moving your hands and fingers. Simple daily routine activities such as brushing teeth, picking up an object, combing hair, etc. help strengthen fine motor skills. We ignore the importance of these simple activities but they play a significant role in our life.
If you want to improve your child's motor skills, try giving him constructive play. It involves simple but effective hand movements that ultimately lead to improved performance.
3. Better academic performance
It may sound crazy to you, but constructive play helps improve academic learning skills. How? You have to wonder! We don't realize that the activities involved in constructive play are actually learning skills. For example, it needs calculations, measurements and simple geometry. What's more, it involves science like brainstorming, experimentation, tricks and sometimes even hypnotism. In addition, your child must also read and write when creating something. All these contribute to improving your child's academic skills and making him the best student.
4. Increase imagination
Constructive play is about imagining different things and putting them into practice. I have seen my daughter build various things, from a castle to a ship. She imagined these structures in her mind and made them as realistic as possible. Every time she played, she tried different ideas and it engaged her imagination. This made her a better thinker and a smart individual.
5. Stability and persistence
When building blocks and playing similar games, initial ideas usually go to waste. Destroying the structure and trying another idea is quite normal in constructive play. However, it is frustrating and unnerving. This is where constructive play plays its role and increases children's patience. This makes them persistent and motivates them to achieve their goals
