Diwali Festival of Light 

An attractive star on the stage of the Indian festival Diwali - a celebration that, in general, celebrates the best victory over evil. The name of the festival is almost 'line of lights / lamps, so Diwali is more commonly known as the festival of lights.

It lasts a period of five days on good days during the beginning of Ashvin / Kartika - the months of the Hindu lunar calendar equal to the months of the Gregorian calendar / October / November.

Diwali falls in October or November each year, counting on the lunar cycle. The Diwali celebration is the fifteenth day of Kartik, the holy month in the Hindu lunar calendar. The Diwali festival lasts 5 days, with purposeful demonstrations taking place on the third day in many parts of India.


The first day was known as Dhanteras. The word "Dhan" means that wealth and "teras" refer to the thirteenth day of the two lunar months in the Hindu calendar. This day is dedicated to celebration and prosperity. The goddess Lakshmi is welcome in the house and gold is bought for the day.

The second day is known as Naraka Chaturdasi or Choti Diwali (Little Diwali). Hindu literature reports that Asura (demon) Narakasura was assassinated on this day by Krishna, Satyabhama, and the goddess Kali. The day begins with the morning rituals and ceremonies. Kali is celebrated in western Bengal, and portraits of paper Narakasura, filled with grass and fireworks, symbolize evil. In addition, at four o'clock in the morning, the dolls are burned, crackers explode, and finally people come home to bathe in fragrant oil.


The third day is the day of the new asteroid known as Amavasya. The darkest day of the month is the most important day of the Diwali festival in North and West India. On the holy day of the goddess Diwali Lakshmi is worshiped with a special puja performed at night.


The fourth day has different meanings throughout India. In northern India, Govardhan Puja is celebrated on the fourth day as God Krishna defeated Indra, the God of thunder and rain on the day. In Gujarat, the start of a new year. In Maharashtra, the Bali Puja was formed to seek the blessing of the demon king of Bali.


The fifth day is known as Bhai Dhuj. Dedicated to celebrating sisters, like Raksha Bandhan who honors the wonderful love of our brothers and sisters. Brothers and sisters gather and share food, to honor the bond between them.

Cultures vary from region to region. However, the day is devoted to the worship of the goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, and to Ganesh, the goddess of obstacles. People believe that the goddess Lakshmi was born as a result of an earthquake on the first day of Diwali that will visit each home during the Diwali period, which includes her prosperity and wealth. People think you are visiting clean homes first. So people make sure that their apartments are clean before turning on the lights so they can accommodate them. In addition, people also worship images of small goddesses in their homes.
