Most companies already know that if they want to have an overall successful marketing campaign, they need to engage with Facebook in some way. We know we have to do it, but we can't quite figure out how to make it work for us, can we? The first step is always the hardest. You've created your Facebook page, now what? You don't have any "likes" do you? Where are they hiding and how do you get them to "like" you? These seven powerful steps should work for most, if not all, businesses and help you get the traction you need on Facebook.
Custom welcome page
Admittedly, to achieve this, you need to have someone on your team who knows a bit of HTML, or at least can work with a WYSIWYG editor. There are also companies that specialize in creating these types of sites for you if you don't have someone to do it for you. Custom welcome pages offer a nice transition to your Facebook page. Instead of going straight to your wall, scrolling through posts and trying to find your about page just to find out who you are and what you do, they can have a custom graphic that does it for them right off the bat. There are many different ways that companies use custom welcome pages to engage their fans, but the important thing to remember is that you need to be creative and keep testing to see what works for you.
Remind them
On your own welcome page, remind your “rats” why they should like you. Do you have amazing customer service that they would agree with? Do you offer exclusive information to people who like your page? You will have to "push" the user a little to make them like you, so don't be afraid to show all your best qualities up front.
Motivate
People like to get something and they especially like to get something for nothing. Well, almost nothing. They simply need to like your page to get access to exclusive deals and offers. Some people offer prize draws to people who like their page and routinely shut them down. Others give their fans access to exclusive coupons or content that you won't find anywhere else.
Call them to action
Sometimes people need a little reminder of what to do. Never assume your prospect knows what you want them to do. On your own welcome page, it's always a good idea to have an arrow pointing in some way to a "Like" button with a prompt that says something like "We like you to get access to exclusive content" or "Don't forget to Like us!" .Make it clear that what you really want from them is the desired action.
Communicate
People like to connect with people. I think Facebook and social media in general have done that. If you are not social, no one will want to like you. Make interactive videos and try to engage your fans. While it's great that you post your own exclusive content, your fans want to see and interact with your other fans. They want to be able to identify with someone. Run contests like "Show Us Your Worst Burns" if you're a sunscreen company. Create similar contests for user-generated content. Motivate your fans to share.
Be A Tease
Sometimes getting someone interested is a powerful tool. Place trailers on your own welcome page. Curiosity killed the cat and it can also make them like you. Some companies will put a "Like" page to get access to this free e-book. Again, be creative, but try to put content they'd like to access after the "Like" button.
Explain yourself
Be personal and let your fans see the people behind your company. The motto of the day is "to be transparent". Your fans want to know about you and your staff on a personal level, so let them! Insert pictures, throw videos, fill in all the fields on the "Information" page.
