6 Tips to Prevent Sleep Wrinkles

According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), sleeping in certain positions night after night leads to sleep lines—those wrinkles that sink into the skin's surface and don't disappear when you're awake.


Sleeping in certain positions, especially on your stomach, can lead to more pronounced wrinkles. For example, sleeping on your side increases wrinkles on your cheeks and chin, while sleeping face down gives you wrinkled brows.


You can stop these wrinkles from forming by sleeping on your back and incorporating the following into your sleep routine:


1. Changing sleep positions

There's no arguing that the best way to prevent wrinkles is to sleep on your back, but sometimes it's not easy. To get used to sleeping on your back, try tucking pillows around your shoulders. You can also use a pillow under your knees to take any pressure off your lower back.


2. A quality pillow

Avoid sleeping on cotton pillows as they will push your skin into the fold of the pillow, leading to folds (wrinkles) on your face.


3. Feather pillows

Feather pillows are soft and fluffy and allow your face to melt into the pillow.


4. Sleeping pillows

These great pillows help to improve the quality of your sleep, allowing you to sleep on your side while putting pressure on the front of your face.


5. Satin pillowcases

Great for reducing wrinkles while sleeping. Satin pillowcases help keep your skin smooth by allowing your face to glide across the pillow, minimizing skin wrinkling, as opposed to wrinkling the way a fabric pillowcase would.


6. Apply petroleum jelly to your face

Vaseline is great at keeping skin hydrated and locking in moisture, apply it at night to keep skin smooth.


Sleep wrinkles can be avoided by taking a few easy steps, as it is much easier to prevent wrinkles than to spend time and money fixing them.
