How to Become a Fashion Photographer
1. Get basic photography lessons to understand camera performance
2. Go out and take pictures of the models. There are many websites out there with models that are ready to take pictures with you and live in your area. Start with an online search to find model websites
3. Once you are comfortable taking photographs of amateur models and have excellent photos in your book approach local modeling agencies by telephoning or emailing them and asking them to photograph their models in their portfolios. You may be able to shoot their models for free and maybe get paid for the process of doing so
4. Open the magazines you want to see and learn how they write. In time, you will be able to take photographs with photographers of the magazines you want to shoot. When you are ready, submit your photos to the photo editors of these magazines. You will find their contact details on the first few pages of the magazine or you can call them directly
5. Network and maintain relationships with people in the industry. Social networking sites are great for this as great fashion designers, fashion designers, makeup artists, hairdressers, magazines and photo editors can be found online. It may require digging but social networks have a ton of resources to help you in your quest

6. Create an original style. When you start shooting at first it is easy to fall into the trap of copying other artists and then trying to shoot their style. This is not always bad. For centuries painters and sculptors have flocked to the Louvre in Paris to make the Mona Lisa and other great works of art. Once you have completed the practice, it is important to continue and forget about trying hard to imitate the great masters. Instead, imitate life. That is what art does. Work on improving your style and you will be well rewarded for it
7. Don't over-gear the gear. If you are using a digital camera try to get at least 12 megapixels so you don't have to worry too much about low image quality. Get a few good lenses. In the beginning and in the advanced stages of your work you will find yourself working very hard with natural light. Bind that power. It is the greatest light. Of course you will sometimes find yourself working in the studio. Get a few quality lights. Next, focus on the craft. Man makes an image and the image makes a man
